Getting the Gooch outfit in GTA Online has turned into a bit of a holiday tradition for many players, mostly because it doesn't just drop into your lap. During this waiting period, it's best to stay out in the open, avoid entering interiors, and not jump into long missions or activities that reset freemode flow.

When the Gooch finally does appear, he targets one random player in the session. He pops up nearby, robs them, and then becomes hostile. You'll know it's happening because of the red enemy indicator and the sudden chaos as he takes off running. Other players can see and shoot him, but only the person who was robbed will get the proper reward, so it's important that they deal the final damage.

Taking him down is easy enough. He's not especially tough, and any weapon will do the job. Once he's defeated, he disappears in a burst of green smoke and drops a present that shows up on the ground and on the minimap. Picking that up during the Festive Surprise event is what actually unlocks the Gooch outfit, along with the mask if you didn't already have it, plus some cash and whatever he stole from you cheap GTA 5 Accounts.

After that, the outfit is yours for good. You can find it in your wardrobe under the festive outfits section and wear it whenever you like, even long after the event ends. That's why so many players make a point of doing this every year. Set up a calm two-player session, wait out the timer, let one person get robbed, and hunt down the green troublemaker. It's a small hassle, but for a rare seasonal outfit that sticks with your account forever, most people agree it's worth the effort.
